Emotional trickery

Dolly and I are lying in bed this morning, after she woke me up AGAIN in the middle of the night.

Me: Would you like a cuddle?

Dolly: No, I would like a rice cake

Me: You can't have a rice cake in bed

Dolly: Pleeeeeeeeeeeease

Me: What would you like to do today?

Dolly: Eat rice cakes

We both continue to stare at the TV in silence.

And then....

Dolly: Mummy, you are my best friend (said while stroking my cheek)

Me: Really? (I say with an air of disbelief, but I'm secretly thrilled)

Dolly: Please can I have a rice cake?

Even when we recognise their tricks it's hard to refuse them isn't it?! Mind, nowadays mine can just help themselves to what they want to eat and eat wherever they choose; though I'm pleased to report that they are no longer visiting our bed (except at Christmas - where else would you open a stocking?) so it's their problem if they choose rice crackers!

ooooooohhhhh dear! How our children seem to know instinctively which buttons of ours to press so they can bend us to their will!

Ha ha, brilliant! Kids are great! I said to my little girl that she was hurting me from carrying her, and she said 'its ok I kiss you better'. I never did get to put her down :-)

My little boy asked my mum if she would like him to finish her sausage and potatoes for her. As if he was doing her such a favour! And he really meant it too.
