Green fingers, not tomatoes

Betty led me by the hand to the greenhouse yesterday afternoon announcing that she had some tomatoes to pick.

She was disappointed to find that there were only two ripe tomatoes and so I helpfully suggested that it might be fun to pick a big green one and watch it turn red on the windowsill.

Betty was absolutely appalled at this suggestion and with a furrowed brow she promptly put me right: ‘You are very naughty in the greenhouse mummy. Daddy will tell you off. Tomatoes must be red NOT GREEN’ and then ushered me out of there and back to the house as quickly as she could.

And as if she needed to get all annoyances towards me off her chest, she then said: ‘And it’s not Tom, it’s DADDY’.

I suppose she's too young to know that people can't be all that naughty in greenhouses...

Hehehee! They pick up some funny things don't they?

My son tells me off for calling Daddy by his name too.

Betty sounds such an enchanting little character. However do you stop yourself from laughing out loud?

As for green tomatoes, I far prefer green tomato chutney than the so-called 'normal' variety...Possibly a little sharp for Betty's tastebuds though.

Brilliant! My kids only call me by my first name when they don't get a quick enough response. Dad becomes Adam... and then if that doesn't work they change it to Alan! It's a useful little trick for getting a response from day-dreaming dads. Try it out some time!
