I am heavier now than I was just after Dolly was born, and so I have recently started trying really hard to lose weight. It was a comment from my dear friend Emily that finally did it when she told me I was looking a bit ‘roly poly’.
I began my mission by cutting back on my chocolate intake, but I found that cheese then became my weakness. Anyway, I am slowly sorting things out and last week managed to shift 4lbs. I rewarded myself with a new top, which I put on this morning and proudly marched into the kitchen where Betty and Tom were having breakfast.
Ever the observant little girl, Betty remarked on my new top and told me she liked it a lot. I then asked: ‘Do you think I look like a yummy mummy my darling?’ She replied with a resonant ‘NO’. And then she went on to say: ‘Yummy Betty. Yummy Daddy. Yummy Dolly. Yummy Granny. Yummy Peppa Pig. Yummy Mummy Pig. Yummy Maisy Mouse. Yummy Pocoyo. Yummy Tesco Man…‘
‘Yummy Mummy?’ I asked, trying to keep a straight face. ‘NO’ she said.

Of course what she mean was that you were more than yummy...
Boy #1 told me I was fat yesterday. I actually am not - but it doesn't help knowing that when a five year old decides you are. And of course, compared to him, I am! Ignore her Elsie - you're doing great.
Yummy Tesco Man? Do you always have the same one, or does she think they are ALL yummy?
Roly Poly? I don't even know what that means, but it doesn't sound too nice. Did Tom cringe when you said Yummy Tesco Man? I would have got suspicious.
You are doing great. 4 pounds is a lot in a week. (Go Elsie! Go Elsie!)
4lbs in a week? I think that deserves a chocolate or two to celebrate!! Hee hee. But seriously, well done. That's great. Weight gain in pregnancy was the bane of my life (did I ever say I put on 5 stone during my first one)? I say it al the time, so forgive me if I'm repeating myself. I think I've bored everyone to tears with that fact. Anyway, I can sympathise and empathise...but between you and me and the whole of the blogging community I didn't think you were roly poly at all... xxx
PS - word verification is barall... different spelling but barrel nonetheless!
Don't rely on a toddler for kudos on your success...they think Barney, a purple dinosaur and Big Bird are cute!
I wonder what she thinks yummy means?
hmmm, yes, now what can we salvage from this exchange? clearly 'yummy' is not good enough for you, you, as Mummy are in a completely different category, soaring above those lesser mortals that are prefaced by 'yummy'. (How Granny and Tesco Man got into the same category gives me some cause for concern).
But just what category does she have you in, i wonder? Stupendous? perhaps she thinks you are stupendous?
Perhapsh you have worked out i've had a few units of alcohol and am now very clearly, blathering?
Cochonx
Every time I think I might be verging on the, well, roly poly, myself I look at photos of Posh Spice...sorry, Victoria Beckham...and think how I would much, much rather have a few curves than a few bones on display.
Babes are too too honest for their own good. Think someone should start Toddler Etiquette classes to stop our fragile egos from being constantly wounded by their pointed remarks.
I would make myself a nice frothy hot chocolate and put it out of your head, at least until Dolly's 1st birthday. And then only lose weight if you really feel you must. I found the stress of juggling two babes, daily buggy marathons + general running around after them meant the pounds melted away pretty quickly 2nd time round...
Now, where's the double cream...?
Hi PIppa, hmmm, you reckon?!
Hi PM, thank you! i think that's it, compared to our miniature offspring we must seem huge! (altho I really am huge right now)
Hi Iota, I think that she was referring to one in particular that has been more than the others, He and Betty always have a bit of a laugh
Hi MM, thanks! by the way according to wikipedia roly poly is: 'Anything whose shape approximates a sphere'
Hi Maternal Tales, barrel.. roly poly... how did they know? - that's spooky! 5 stone?? But you are TINY! and thank you for saying the right thing (altho you are lying!)
Hi sew hot, very true! they MUST see things very differently to us, surely?
Hi a modern mother, unfortunately i think the little tyke knows exactly what it means!
Hi cochon, me too! i think betty thinks i am far from stupendous though, but thanks for the thought
Hi Mamma Po, have got a hot choc with cream on top on the go right now - seriously! all thanks to you! a friend told me that perhaps i need to exercise more, but like you say, i am on my feet all day long, racing around from one domestic necessity to the next
Am off on hols on Sunday, so won't be around for a while...
Busy writing lists, washing, packing, and eating everything left in the fridge...
I was once asked if I was pregnant when I wasn't. That was enough for me to start looking at my diet. Don't feel too disheartened. We all feel un-yummy sometimes.
Did you take the new top back as it didn't get you a yummy nod?
I was once told at a wedding that my dress was fabuolous as it hid my pregnancy so well. Only I wasn't pregnant and hadn't been for well over a year. SOb...
I'm not lying - you looked fab. Besides little baby button is still so young. Don't worry. Award for you over at mine. Hope it cheers you up x
award here for you! :) x
I'd just like to interpret GTR's comment for you if I may? (I have a double first in Japanese from Reuter's University).
Hi Friend,
I've just found your blog and it is great, are you tits massive? Are you an 85cc? I love how your blog is about children, I love all those nursery rhymes, Old MacDonald had a farm, ee aio ee aio. Ut! what am i talking about? I'd like to give you my phone number but i feel a bit shy, it begins with 080, did you get that? 080, i said 080. I would love to spend time with you, you are worth lavishing 6k on. If i could spend time with you I would give you a hi5,hilive,hi5 tv,a383, that's cool talk down on the street where I come from. Hey, have you seen the new shop sogo? Great new fashions, shoes plus clothes plus well all sorts of things really. Well friend, I'm glad we had some talk time, AV, AV as they say where I come from. And don't worry, I'm a filthy spammer but there's no way I want to have SEX, not after what Betty said about you.
Wish you lucky.
I'm just exploding with laughter over Pig's 'translation'....
Yumminess in Mummies is definitely overrated. I saw a photo of Claudia Schiffer doing the school run earlier (on the Mail website - gulp) and you know what? I didn't want to look like her at all. I'd hate to get all dolled up just to take the children to school. Much better to look just about OK, and then surprise people by occasionally looking glamorous!
It's so unfair that post baby the only thing that will keep you awake and moving is calories (caffeine just makes me shout at the children earlier in the day). I was constantly snacking and despite breastfeeding was plateauing at a weight I wasn't happy with. I chucked out all the bad snacks and now snack on lean protein to try and keep me going.
I'm lying, I'm eating chocolate whilst writing this.
